We have been BLASTING OFF in our quest for knowledge of space. The kids have been really excited as we have learned facts about the moon and the sun. We will continue with our study of space as we learn about planets, galaxies, and deep space. During this unit we will be discussing light and shadows, creating alien artwork, designing our own planet and then writing a persuasive paragraph explaining why someone may want to live on this planet, graphing parts of aliens, cooking moon cakes, practicing our money skills by developing an alien that costs more than .75, and much more! |

Do you know how many rooms the White House has? Where Abraham Lincoln was born? Where the Statue of Liberty is and wo gave it to us? Who the first president was? Who our president is now? What the president's dog looks like? We will be learning these things and much more on our journey through the United States and the symbols that represent us. The essential question for this unit is; What are the symbols that represent the United States and why are symbols important? We will be working on a US Symbols scrapbook during this unit as our assessment piece. Your child will be asked to research 3-6 U.S. symbols, find pictures and at least 4 facts for each, and create a scrapbook using that information. You can help by allowing your child to print pictures of U.S. symbols and bring them to school. If you are unable to do this, your child will have plenty of opportunities to research and print at school. Check out the updates in the Explorer's Zone in Math and Writing!! |
